Toronto Star's Year in Pictures

The Toronto Star has recently posted their Year in Pictures for 2009 and they have some great photos.

I never used to take too much notice of the images that are attached to news stories, but since picking up a camera myself over 4 years ago I've come to appreciate photojournalism as a unique style of photography. After hearing Richard Lautens, a Star photographer, speak about his experiences a couple of times I realize how talented these photographers are.

Anyway, you can have look at the Star's Year in Pictures here.

Olympic Fever Came To Town This Weekend

The 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver are not too far off and the Olympic Torch is making it's 106 day, 45,000 km journey across Canada. This past weekend the Torch made it's way into our little part of the world traveling though Oakville, Ontario on Saturday. I braved the cold weather for almost 90 minutes to try and capture a few shots but, I wasn't the only one who showed up. I overheard a police officer say to his partner after they arrived "welcome to the chaos". Actually, all the officers did a really good job with crowd and traffic control on a very cold day with a lot of excited and proud Canadians. Everyone was pretty well behaved, though.

After waiting for what felt like a very long time, the Torch finally arrives...

I was lucky to have parked myself at a relay point, but the support/security runners were hard to shoot around...

The hand off happened really fast and the Torch continued on it's way...

Saludos for now.

The Official First Blog Post

Well, I spend a lot of time reading other people's blogs (lurking or "blog stalking" I believe it's called) and thought it was high time to jump in with both feet and try out this blogging thing myself.

I'm a hobby photographer which means that I have a normal day job (but my colleagues would probably not use my name and the word "normal" in the same sentence too often). I'll use this space to share some of my images and thoughts around photography in general, kind of "my view through the lens" and I'll try to post as often as I can.

More about me later... let's get to the first photo post.

Saludos!
